Contra Costa County Student Humanitarian of the Year

MLK 2017 Student Humanitarian
Paige Godvin,
Monte Vista High School, Danville
2017 Student Humanitarian of the Year

The Monte Vista High School Senior was nominated by her physics teacher, who captured the essence of a leader in the making who has already developed a passion for serving others. at Monte Vista , she has taken on a wide variety of philanthropic roles, serving in the Red Cross Clue, the Blind Babies Awareness Foundation Club, and the Monte Vista Medical Club. Those roles have to be carefully juggled with a heavy academic load, a decade of involvement  in a competitive dance team and enough practice to land a Certificate of Merit as a pianist.

It is her commitment to the community outside of her school that continues to touch the hearts of so many people. Her mentoring to younger kids at her church, Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian, is evidence by her service  as both as a leader of the Middle School youth group and a teacher of Sunday School curriculum. Her involvement with this organization  is also marked by her participation in four mission  trips to locations including Salinas, the Navajo Nations of New Mexico, and Wapato, Washington, all culminating in her role as a youth leader on Middle School mission trip to Los Angeles last summer.

An avid photographer and creator of her own photography business, Paige Godvin Photography, she volunteers her services to both local groups and charitable organizations such as NephCure Kidney International and the Monte Vista High School dance program. She also uses her talent to support Flashes of Hope, a foundation that provides free professional photography to families who have a child with cancer, and has helped photograph more than 30 families to date. Because of the profound impact Flashes of Hope has made on her, Paige plans to pursue a medical degree after college and become a pediatric oncologist, continuing to focus her energy in making the lives of children healthier and happier.

Contra Costa County is proud to award Paige Godvin with our Student Humanitarian of the Year Award.
